Batik Parade will Be Held in Jakarta

Jakarta Provincial Government along with Indonesian Batik Foundation will hold batik parade in a series of commemorating National Batik Day, which falls on October 2.

Jakarta Governor, Djarot Saiful Hidayat said he supports the parade. Moreover, currently, batik is already popular and has been recognized as a cultural heritage and tradition of Indonesia's homeland.

"Yet batik day is not yet socialized well. That's why we try to hold batik parade on batik day," he expressed, at City Hall, Friday (7/14).

According to him, in some areas, local batik has grown, including in Jakarta. Even, batik craft continues to be developed by training the flat residents.

"I am very happy now that local batik has become popular, especially the motive. In Jakarta, it has been developed for the flat residents," she stated.

Jakarta Tourism and Culture Dept. Head, Tinia Budiati added, hundreds of people will enliven the batik parade. Initially, the parade is started from Gelora Bung Karno, but it has been shorten from HI Roundabout until Sarinah.

She continued, besides parade, there will be fashion show vertical at Sarinah building. The model used is from Student Nature Lovers (Mapala) of Indonesia University.

"So there will be model that will be displayed vertically by using batik," he closed.
